Google Merchant: Sell where you are

I am often contacted by owners of stores created on Shopify platforms with the issue of “Misrepresentation” in Google Shopping. The main problem is that the store is located, for example, in the UK, but wants to sell in Australia. In fact, this is possible and profitable. Thanks to Google Merchant, any store can sell its products in the country it wants.

Let’s continue with the above example. The store is located in the UK but wants to sell products in Australia.

When I check the store’s website made on Shopify, WordPress, or another platform, I see that the site has the correct description of the products and even all the pages, the shipping policy is made for Australia, and even the price of the products is indicated in Australian dollars. It would seem, why doesn’t Google want to approve such a site and suspend an account with the Misrepresentation mark?

When I go down to the footer of the site, and see the store address and phone number, I understand that the reason for blocking the Merchant account is here.

If your store is in the UK and you want to sell in Australia, Google has every right to ask you, «Why don’t you sell in the UK?»

Your absolutely logical answer is «This is my store and I want to sell my products in the country I want.» You will be right. But in this case, Google will ask you to indicate an Australian phone number on the site. Google respects consumer rights and wants your customers to have every right to easily contact you and ask questions if, for example, they did not receive their goods, or received the wrong goods. Google can also tell you «Maybe you should also indicate an Australian address?» And you will have to do it.

Agree, with absolutely acceptable requirements, which, by the way, are spelled out in Google’s rules. And you will have to fix all the above issues on the site so that your site is accepted by Google, and the Google merchant account is unblocked. Or you can contact me and I will be happy to help you. And my services will cost you some $100. You could say it’s even shameful to set such cheap prices. But I just love working with Google, and Google loves me. Good luck to you!
